QuickTest Professional is an offering from Mercury, one of the leading companies that provide automated testing tools. Mercury claims that QuickTest Professional is easier to use than WinRunner. One of the reasons for this is its “keyword-driven” functionality. Many of the things that require writing code in WinRunner, such as adding loops or IF statements to automated test scripts, can be done in QuickTest through built-in functionality and without any need to write code. The theory is that individuals with little or no programming background will have an easier time learning and using QuickTest Professional than WinRunner. QuickTest integrates with TestDirector, Mercury’s test management offering. When used together, QuickTest executes automated tests and TestDirector stores the results, as well as the automated test scripts themselves. Mercury has suggested that it will add new functionality more quickly to QuickTest Pro than it will to WinRunner going forward. The company cannot stop supporting WinRunner due to its large user base, but it looks like the firm will recommend QuickTest for new customers. |

We don't have to send our testers for external training anymore in order for them to be able to create and execute automated tests. This is a huge plus in terms of cost savings, and the training budget can be used for other types of courses.
