SilkTest is Segue Software’s offering for automated functional testing. It supports the testing of client-server and browser-based applications, as well as standalone programs. Users begin by recording actions against the GUI of the application being tested. The test script that results can be customized to utilize data from files and databases as test inputs. Validation steps can also be added. In SilkTest, users modify automated test scripts using a proprietary, object-based programming language called 4Test. SilkTest scripts can also directly access databases to execute SQL commands and perform verification of database content. One useful feature of SilkTest is the built-in Recovery System that automatically restores an application to a user-defined initial state after the execution of each individual test, thus allowing tests to be run unattended. If a series of tests is scheduled to be executed and the application being tested crashes while one test is being run, subsequent automated scripts can still be successfully executed because the application’s initial state will be restored by the Recovery System. SilkTest integrates with other Segue testing products such as SilkPlan Pro for test management and SilkRadar for defect tracking. |

You may have to purchase an optional add-on, or multiple ones depending on what kind of system you are testing, so that Silk Test does not have as many problems with the objects in your application.
