Compuware’s
TestPartner is a tool that enables users to create automated test
scripts that validate application functionality. It can be used to test
web and client/server applications. TestPartner also has built-in
functionality allowing users to test SAP systems. It can execute tests
that were created using QARun, Compuware’s earlier functional automated
testing tool. TestPartner scripts are created using Microsoft Visual
Basic for Applications (VBA), which is a non-proprietary language that
has a fairly large user base outside the field of automated software
testing. TestPartner also provides some of the features of the
Microsoft VBA environment, including assistance with debugging and
information on runtime variables. Wizards are available to help create
checks that validate items such as object properties and system data.
TestPartner also has the capability to test client-side and server-side
COM objects, permitting testing to begin before GUI of the application
being tested has been created. TestPartner integrates with Compuware’s
QADirector, a test management tool that provides the capability to
schedule automated test execution, collect and analyze results, and
submit defects.

Especially with the latest version(6.2) it supports almost all the controls in this world.
The tool is specially suited for greybox testing.I have coined a special term for this tool "BaGUI" that is grab your controls from back end as well as act on then from front end.
TP is a BaGUI tool for people with love for programming.

Name: Abhijeet Bhagat [Persistent Systems Ltd.] Date: Tuesday, August 05, 2008 Rating: Comments: TestPartner (6.1) is a Great tool especially if you have a flair for Pragramming. There is much more than any other tool can do for you.
The most important part of TestPartner is that you can add Dll reference at Designtime and look into the classes and methods provided by that dll.
Along with the advantages there are pain points too viz. for very small taks like finding the OS version, Finding the Office version IE version etc you have to code. So in TestPartner you have to pretty much code for everything.
The biggest advantage that i can see of TestPartner is that ypu can literally create all automated scripts without using object repository.

My all script running fine all siebel enviroments. this scripting just like descriptive programming in the QTP.
Compuware TP is very good automation tool in some area of application than other automation tool.

I am working for CMM Level 5 compnay in Pune. I have 1.2 Year experience in Test Partner & it was Excellent.
Client requirement was, to develope the automation scripts which can work on any of Siebel Application & the script generated was has to be generic in nature so we are not using Object Repository for any Test Script so we are capturing every Object property at run-time.
Likewise till now i have done all the job as per client requirement.
Do share your Problem/Suggestion with me at jitendra.raghuwanshi@gmail.com

It's a bug collection app.
It will help to improve your imagination since nothing works as expected.
It's useful anyway for some repetitive task or determine a web app availability (it's not a performance tool!)

Poorest tool, compiled help is totally unuseful, only forums are a better way to find info. Support is poor. Needs to include exception handling in a massive way...

Name: Timor K. Date: Tuesday, April 17, 2007 Rating: Comments: Our team has been using TestPartner for one year and feeling is mixed. Concurrent licensing is great feature, VBA is the language used which is simple to learn and scripts are easily maintained. All the versions prior to 5.6 sp1 (the current) have been buggy and unstable. Buggy as in corrupts local Access database during crashing, random crashing, slows down Java etc. I'm giving three stars because of the poor quality of the versions we have used.
5.6 with SP1 is definitely better but I don't have production experience with that yet so I cannot comment that version. Early test show that it's more stable and most of the crashing has been fixed. I was just told that for existing TP customers there's 6.0 Beta available at Compuware's Frontline site so if you are not in a hurry you might want to wait for that.
Name: cK Date: Saturday, April 14, 2007 Rating: Comments: Probably the worse product for testing. The product is full of bugs that never been fixed. Good luck on the product if you decide to buy. There are definitely better products out there will work better and cost a lot less.

Name: Todd H Date: Monday, December 18, 2006 Rating: Comments: I have found TestPartner to be a rather poor tool requiring more code work that I have seen when using competing products. Also, the general support from the representatives for the tool and their web based forums have been not very helpful when encountering issues. I was even reccomended to a yahoo group by a technical representative of their own company as opposed to their internal forum! This does not inspire faith in the company as a whole to me ...
Just have really begun using the tool so we'll see, but so far; not impressed at all!
Name: QA team lead Date: Thursday, April 27, 2006 Rating: Comments: We found that TestPartner did not pick up all of the keystrokes requiring us to edit the scripts to render them useful. More importantly, Compuware gave us several updates that actually removed some functionality in their test suite. In the end, we had less than what we started with.
Name: Perry A. Date: Friday, March 31, 2006 Rating: Comments: Very useful for testing COM objects, so you can start testing a system before the developers even create GUI. So in this respect it can be used even for unit testing, unlike a lot of the other automated testing tools that are reliant on a system's user interface.
Name: Ellen D. Date: Friday, March 31, 2006 Rating: Comments: The concurrent licensing that you can get works much better than the standard per-seat licenses that some products offer. You can have a pool of team member using the Test Partner, since not everyone will be using it at once, and people not using it currently aren't tying up licenses.
Name: Stuart Date: Friday, March 31, 2006 Rating: Comments: Definitely lightyears ahead of compuware's old tool, QA-Run. Although TestPartner can run old QA-Run scripts, you may be better of recreating those scripts if it's not extremely diffficult, since they will be much easier to maintain if programmed in VBA.
Name: Wesley L. Date: Thursday, March 30, 2006 Rating: Comments: Good for testing applications in .NET or Siebel systems. Easy to use and learn, and can defiinitely be used make your GUI testing more thorough.
Name: Sylvia V. Date: Thursday, March 30, 2006 Rating: Comments: you need to know how to program using VBA to use TestPartner. but its not too difficult to learn, and once you do, its a nice skill to have anyway in the IT field.
